NBA Basketball Arena Review
- Houston Toyota Center
It is not difficult for fans to find the home of the Houston Rockets. Just drive downtown. Opened in 2003, the Toyota Center is a state of the art sports arena capable of hosting over 18 thousand fans. This arena is a must see for any NBA fan.
Getting to the Toyota Center is remarkably easy as well. Fans can take
either the I-10 or 1-45 expressways. Both have exits to surface
streets just a few blocks away. There are plenty of surface lots
within a few blocks of the arena and a parking garage with an
elevated walkway that feeds directly into the suite level of the
arena. Fans that don’t mind a walk and want to save a little money
can park in metered parking spaces a little farther away from the
arena. Meters are not monitored at night or on the weekends.
Most fans enter from the Northwest corner of the arena. The entrance empties into a large glass atrium with breathtaking views of the downtown skyline. The concourses are large, clean, and brightly lit. If you have seats in the upper deck, you will have the opportunity to ride the longest escalator in pro sports. Those who may be interested in purchasing a new Toyota will have the chance to get up close and personal with the newest models. Display cars are scattered throughout the facility.

Hungry fans will not be disappointed with the concessions offered at the Toyota Center. There is something for everyone. Besides the normal stadium staples, there are many specialty and local eateries inside the arena. Space City Dogs has amazing hot dogs. Clutch City Pizza is a great place to grab a slice, and the Baskets Grill has a variety of ethnic foods from Italian to Asian available.
There are two levels of seats within the actual arena, and all have a great view of the action on the court. In addition to clear sight lines, the Toyota Center boasts a state-of-the-art scoreboard with 4 large video monitors and eight LED boards. There is also an LED ribbon board that circles the entire arena. Fans will not have to guess which Houston Rocket is close to fouling out or leading the team in assists.
For those fans who want to eat prior to a Houston Rockets game, Houston has plenty to offer. This is Texas, and everything is bigger in Texas. For beer lovers, the
Flying Saucer has over one-hundred fifty beers on tap, and the foods not bad either. For carnivores,
Vic and Anthony’s Steakhouse has been serving some of the best steaks in the country for years. For the low-key folks, the
Hubcap Grill serves up a great burger for a very reasonable price.
When the game is over, it’s time to hit the streets, and the best way to find the post-game party is to follow the Red Rowdies. These super-fans normally know where the best nightspots are, but there are a few places in Houston that come highly recommended. The
Firehouse Saloon is a Texas-style saloon with great live music and cold beer.
Sammy’s at 2016 Main is a great place to catch up and coming Rhythm and Blues acts. The
Downing Street Pub is a more laid back adult atmosphere that boasts over 60 single-malt scotches and a wide variety of hand-rolled cigars.
Fans that arrive a few days early or plan to stay a few days after the Houston Rockets game will want to get out and see the city. Here are a few places to go in Houston.
Bayou Place
One-stop entertainment shopping at its finest, this 130,000 sq. ft. entertainment complex has a variety of restaurants, cinemas, bars, clubs, and lounges.
Sam Houston Race Park
Betting on the ponies is a good way to spend an afternoon. Fans might even leave with a little money in their pockets. This track features live quarterhorse and thoroughbred racing 7 days a week as well as simulcasts from around the world.
Space Center Houston
Houston we have a problem. It’s hard to visit Houston without going to the Houston Space Center. Much of the Johnson
Space Center is off limits, but visitors to the space center still have the opportunity to learn just what goes into putting a man on the moon.
Houston
Museum of Natural Science
The Houston Museum of Natural Science provides an excellent
afternoon excursion that's family oriented . With space-station
models, a planetarium, and an IMAX theater, the Houston Museum of
Natural Science is a great place to view some of the wonders of
American history.
Houston is a fantastic city, and the Houston Rockets have been one of the NBA’s best teams over the last decade. A trip to the Toyota Center should be on every fan’s to-do list. It may not be the most storied franchise in the NBA, but they more than make up for it with hospitality and a great fan experience.
