NBA Basketball Arena Review
- Houston Toyota Center
Downtown
Houston is home to some great NBA basketball action as well as one
of the premier basketball arenas in the NBA. The Toyota Center, located on Polk Street,
is home to the Houston Rockets and their youthful, energetic brand
of basketball. Opened in 2003, the Toyota Center is capable of seating
18,300 Rockets fans who pack the arena to capacity every night. With
an atmosphere that rivals the league's best, the Toyota Center can
provide an excellent experience for family and friends alike. The
brightest and sharpest scoreboard images in the NBA can be found on
the Toyota Center scoreboard with four 9'x16' LED video boards on
their overhanging big-screen. Their are also matrix boards located
throughout the rest of the arena, which makes it easy to keep
updated on other scores from around the NBA.
With over 13,000
parking spaces within walking distance from the arena, it is easily
accessible from all directions. Use Interstate 10 or Interstate 45
to arrive at the building, which is situated within Houston's
bustling business district. Public transportation is also available
to and from the games through the Metropolitan Transit Authority of
Harris County, Texas, providing easy access to the Toyota Center
from most anywhere within the city of Houston.

If you are
looking to satisfy your hunger in a traditional bar or restaurant
setting, the Toyota Center offers a couple of different options to
its patrons. The Jack Daniels Bar and Grille is a great place to sit
and visit with friends while enjoying your favorite alcoholic or
non-alcoholic beverage. They also serve outstanding traditional
American fare for anyone looking for old-fashioned hamburgers and
fries. For a more upscale dining experience, you can make
reservations at the Copper Canyon Carvery, which offers gourmet
sandwiches with traditional meats and cheeses. Levy's Restaurants
have also setup "mini restaurants" that can be found throughout the Toyota Center
concourse along with the standard concession stands that have become sporting
event mainstays.
The
Lobby Bar, located less than a
half-mile from the Toyota Center is a great place to go before or
after the Rockets game to indulge in a brew or monitor other sporting events from around the
country. With a superb atmosphere for sports fans, the Lobby Bar is an easy
choice for your pre or post-game meal. NBA fans might also try dining at
The
Grove, which is an informal gathering place where patrons
can go for
their favorite American dishes. The city of Houston offers plenty of
excellent dining options located near Toyota
Center that will suit anybody's tastes. This is definitely a
city that knows how to eat.
Nightclubs are
also aplenty in the city of Houston. Numbers Nightclub is one of the
foremost alternative music clubs not just in the city of Houston but
anywhere in the country. For 28 years, Numbers Nightclub has
been showcasing both local and national acts as well as various DJs
spinning the turntables on a nightly basis. Another popular hotspot
for local nightlife is Rich's in midtown Houston.
Rich's is an excellent place to hold your
post-game party, as the dancing and drinking go on until the early
morning hours.
There are also
many points of interest within the downtown Houston area that can be
visited throughout the weekend if you're in town for a Houston Rockets game. The
Houston
Museum of Natural Science provides an excellent afternoon
excursion that's family oriented . With space-station models, a planetarium, and an IMAX
theater, the Houston Museum of Natural Science is a great place to
view some of the wonders of American history. You'll also want to
think about visiting Hermann Park, which features a public golf
course and an outdoor theater with live music. Finally, the
Houston
Zoo is one of the top attractions in the city of Houston. With
animals from all over the world, the Houston Zoo is truly
one-of-a-kind.
The next time
that you are in town to take in a Rockets game, enjoy a little bit
of the culture and some local activities before going to the Toyota
Center. Once the game is over, be sure to indulge in the city's
nightlife mingling with locals to truly get a feel for the city of
Houston. As the Houston Rockets continue to grow as a playoff
powerhouse,
the city of Houston is also growing into a must-see metropolis,
offering its visitors a variety of activities to bookend a great
Houston Rockets experience.
