NBA Basketball Arena Review
- Verizon Center
Located in the heart of downtown
Washington D.C. is a 20,000-seat arena that hosts some of the most
exciting basketball in the NBA. The Verizon Center is the home court
for All-Stars like Gilbert Arenas and Josh Howard as well as number
one draft pick John Wall. The building itself is owned by Monumental
Sports and Entertainment, and its expansive lower bowl and arena
floor provide an excellent venue to watch an NBA game. The
state-of-the-art sound system and high-definition scoreboard is sure
to get you pumped up for the game with famous pre-game anthems along
with video packages highlighting your favorite Wizards player.
The Verizon
Center is located directly above the Metro Rail, which makes it very
easy to access the arena when you get off at the Gallery
Place-Chinatown stop directly across the street from the building.
If you plan on driving your own vehicle to see a Wizards game, the
building is located on the corner of F and 7th Streets. Verizon
Center can be easily accessed from all three airports in the area,
and taxi service to and from the arena is readily available.

Good food and
excellent beverages can be found inside the Verizon Center as well.
If it is a simple grab-and-go meal that you are looking for, there
are numerous concession stands located around the main concourse.
From pizza to popcorn to pretzels, a wide variety of stadium
favorites is offered for fans attending a Washington Wizards game.
Those interested in more of a traditional dining setting can find
what they are looking for in The Green Turtle Sports Bar & Grille.
With reasonable prices and a convenient location, The Green Turtle
offers excellent food and service to all of its patrons. Dewar's 12
Clubhouse is also open before, during, and after events that are
held at Verizon Center. Dewar's makes it possible to indulge in a
bite to eat while enjoying some of their world-famous alcoholic
beverages in a relaxing, comfortable setting.
There are also
many opportunities outside of the arena to find outstanding food and
drink while not paying exorbitant prices at the same time. Matchbox
DC Vintage Pizza Bistro is a great place to visit if you enjoy
oven-baked pizza that is cooked on a wood stove. The thin crust and
liberal amounts of cheese and toppings will surely satisfy your
taste buds and fill your hunger. You can also visit Clyde's at
Gallery Place, which is a restaurant dedicated to serving a wide
variety of food so that everyone can find something they like. With
four bars and five dining rooms located within the two-story
structure, there is plenty of room to have a relaxing dinner with
friends or family members.
Bars and
nightlife are also aplenty in the metro Washington D.C. area. After
an exciting game at Verizon Center, you can visit Bar Louie located
on 7th St. NW. With an inviting, contemporary feel, Bar Louie's
offers various drink specials throughout the week so that you can
take advantage of the low prices whenever you attend a Washington
Wizards game. There is also RFD, which houses the World of Beer.
Whatever kind of lager you desire, RFD will no doubt have it
available. This is also an exceptional place to meet and chat with
other people who are also enjoying the Washington D.C. nightlife.
You can visit
many different points of interest while you are in Washington D.C.
as well. Aside from the many governmental buildings that can be
found throughout the city, you can also find interesting pieces of
history at the National Museum of American History, which is located
right next door to the National Museum of Natural History. Close to
the Verizon Center is Ford's Theater & Lincoln Museum, which gives
you the opportunity to see the setting for the infamous
assassination of President Lincoln. The Smithsonian museums can also
offer many hours of awe-inspiring moments that will become lifelong
memories.
The Washington
Wizards are considered to be a team on the way back up in the
Eastern Conference. Head coach Flip Saunders had this Wizards team
playing much better by the end of last season, which can only mean
that better results are on the horizon for the Wizards. Be sure to
visit the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. to see one of the NBA's
most opulent attractions.

Where To
Stay:
The
entire belt way area around Washington DC is blanketed by a very easy to
use subway system. You can stay anywhere in DC and just take the subway
to the game. I recommend the Donovan House which is located close to
Capitol Hill and the Mall area offering easy access to the most popular
tourist POI's.
Getting to the Arena:
Definitely plan on taking the Metro to the Verizon Center.
The Gallery Place-Chinatown station is located directly at Verizon
Center (Red, Yellow and Green lines), and Judiciary Square (Red line),
Metro Center (Red, Orange and Blue lines) and Archives-Navy Memorial
(Green and Yellow lines) are within walking distance. Driving anywhere
in Washington, D.C. is simply not worth it once you factor in that you
still have to find parking. The Metro system is quick and convenient
and it'll get you to the game on time. |
